Save de Children Romania
Save the Children Romania, an active member of Save the Children International Alliance, is an non-gouvernmental organization based on the activity of it's volunteers, developing programs and activities in the benefit of the children, especially those in difficulty.
Founded in 1990 and enjoying the creditability and respect due to the outstanding obtained results, Save the Children has currently 6.000 members and 1.000 volunteers who carry out the activity in the 13 branches.
Promoter and supporter of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the organization monitors the insurance and defense of the child's rights in Romania.
Thus, Save the Children approaches whenever needed any social phenomenon that has an impact on children and acts to all level of the Romanian society:
- Identifying problems that some children face;
- Monitoring the children's rights observance;
- Developing and providing some services in order to meet the identified needs and problems.
The organization's programs and activities meant for the following categories of beneficiaries:
- Children who work
- Rroma children
- Children with handicaps
- Refugees children
- Trafficked and abused children.
Save the Children carry out for all these children programs that facilitate the access to education, campaigns against abuse and drug use in schools. Also, Save the Children is an active presence in many of the schools within the Romanian educational system, where they carry out different educational activities.
One of this organizations desires is to amend and adapt the politics and the legal framework, all these in the children's benefit.
Within the 6th Round of Global Fund, the Save the Children is developing prevention programs of Tuberculosis in Dolj, Iasi and Timis.
The target group of these projects is the street children and youth, over 1.000 people who are going to benefit of the services provided through these projects, out of which:TB prevention among street children and youth through health education that contains the following activities:
- TB information for street children/youth and their parents
- Elaboration of a research on knowledge, attitudes and practices on TB among the target group
- Elaboration of the educational materials for specialists and target groups (brochures, flyers, posters)
- training for specialists in social and medical field in order to increase the capacity of the partner institutions to work with the target group for TB prevention, TB patients identification and treatment
Precocious identification and efficient treatment of TB patients among street children and youth:
- identification and reference for TB suspects among street children/youth and their parents to the medical system
- monitoring for completing with success the anti TB treatment for the TB patients identified among the target group.
Psycho-social support for TB suspects and patients among street children and youth:
- providing services of social assistance and psychological counseling for TB patients among the target group in order to strengthening treatment adherence and for TB suspects and their family members.
