The "Filaret" sanatorium and medical unit, founded in 1904 in Bucharest, marked the beginning of the Society for the tuberculosis prophylaxis, founded at the initiative of a physicians group in 1901.
In 1949 becomes the "The Clinical Institute of Ftiziology", a technical consultative body of the Ministry of Health, responsible for elaborating researches and academic studies in all the problems related to tuberculosis and also responsible for orienting the fight against the tuberculosis in Romania.
