SCOP Timisoara - Children and Parents Association

Children and Parents Association - SCOP Timisoara was founded in 1996.

SCOP's mission is the improvement of life quality for children, women and family. The organization is a member of: FONPC (the Federation of the Child Protection Non-governmental Organizations); the Non-governmental Organizations's Coalition againts Romanian Women's Abuse; FamNet Network, ISPCAN - International Society for Preventing the Child's Abuse and Neglect.

SCOP's main activity areas are:

  • The support offered to HIV/AIDS infected young people in the Effata Day Care Centre for social and professional integration;
  • Child abuse, neglect and abandonment prevention programmes: Mother counselling centres in 4 maternity houses in Timis, Sannicolau Mare, Făget and Lugoj counties; Community centre offering services to young children coming from vulnerable families from Jimbolia; "Casuta Minunata";
  • Information campaigns for students, teachers and parents about abuse prevention and the promotion of children's rights.
  • Human traffic prevention projects targeting young people
  • The prevention of addictive substances consumption by youngsters, using the "peer education" method

During the 6th Round of the Global Fund, SCOP implements the following activities:

  • Education for Life Program regards the learning of the independent survival skills for 40 young HIV/AIDS seropositive people and for 20 young people with difficulties from the community. This involves organizing training sessions on specific themes, and each of the 15 beneficiaries participates in a module of 12 themes each semester. Expected results: the young people will have gained the necessary abilities for having and maintaining a job, interrelating and building a family, gaining knowledge about the resources available in society and will have learnt to deal with the institutions regarding resources.
  • Protected Tailoring Workshop: this project aims to professional training 20 young HIV/AIDS infected people. Each of the project's beneficiary is to participate to the tailor training activities for 2 day / week for a year, under the supervision of a qualified tailoring trainer. Each year are targeted 10 youngsters. Also SCOP intends to set up a tailor workshop for carrying out the activities. The expected results: the youngsters will develop professional skills following the training within Effata Day Care Center in order to professionally integrate them.The duration of the 2 projects: 2 years; The projects' location: Day Care Center "Effata" from SCOP Timisoara
