Hope (Speranta) Association
Founded in Constanta, early in 1990, Speranta Association is the first NGO working in HIV/AIDS field.
The main objective of the organization is to assure a nearly normal life to the HIV infected children / young people who are orphans / abandoned by their natural families. By providin gmedical and social services, SPERANTA significantly contributes to the increase of these children's life expectancy. SPERANTA Association is a founder member of FONPC (The Commonwealth of Nongovernmental Organizations for Child's Protection) and it is the coordinator of the HIV/ AIDS network in Constanta.
The strategic plan of SPERANTA Association for the following 3-5 years includes:
- to assure the protection and care for the orphan or abandoned teenagers living with HIV, in a residential environment: providing safe housing for an indeterminate period, food and hygienic-sanitary conditions
- socialization activities, of spending spare time and of integration in the community;
- developing the skills of the young HIV positive people so that they can have an independent life. Nowadays the necessary funds for this activities are assured in a proportion of 60% by the external sponsors and 40% by the Romanian donors / Government. It is stipulated that after 3-4 years, the necessary funds will be covered through activities of self housekeeping and self financing ;
- information, education and counseling HIV / AIDS, in order to prevent the transmission of HIV (sexual education in schools, information/counseling and family planning).
During the 6th Round of financing of Global Fund, SPERANTA Association implements the following project: "Development and implementation of two school workshops - MICROFARM and GLASS HOUSES / SOLARS." Through this project the HIV young people will learn to have an independent life and will get some skills which can enable them to subsequently find a job.
The beneficiaries of this project will be 30 young persons infected with HIV:10 from the Ashitanoe House / Luxemburg who will attend the 4 training modules for an independent life and 20 from Constanta who will be vocationally trained for gardening and glass houses / solar.
The training modules will have 2 components: one practice, and the other, theoretic. From the 30 young beneficiaries, it is stipulated that 6 will become employees of the farm or micro farm.
