Foundation People's Development
Foundation People's Development was founded in 1994 and implements activities dedicated to the problems of children and young people in need, especially of HIV positive children and their families. in foundation's vision "any person can valorize own talents".
Impressed by the conditions on how the HIV+ children from the Hospital for Infectious Diseases "Dr Victor Babes" were taken care of, the Italian organization AVSI initiated in 1994 the intervention of rehabilitation of the pediatric department. Further, in 1996, the Romanian and Italian volunteers set up together the Foundation for People Development (FDP).
The Foundation's activity focuses on protecting the children and the teenagers who have difficulties, with a particular accent on the HIV+ children.
Presently the intervention of the foundation is focused on four areas:
- Bucharest (HIV+ children abandoned or within the family - prevention of abandonment and alternatives to institutionalization: familial type of homes, foster families, Daycare Center),
- Cojasca - Dambovita County (intervention in the rroma community),
- Arad (orientation and professional training of the persons with difficulties, preventing the abandonment in maternity hospital),
- Cluj (socio-educational intervention for the children coming from poor families, special schools or foster centers).
According to the Foundation's vision "each person can enhance the skills they inherited". Thus, the mission of Fundatia Dezvoltarea Popoarelor is to offer new educational and socio-professional integration opportunities, by implementing projects and programs of development for the children and teenagers who face poverty, diseases or the lack of the family.
Projects and activities that will be implemented within the Global Fund's program under the 6th Round:
- Education for life, made by professionals: 46 HIV+ youngsters from Bucharest, Arad and Dâmbovita will be counseled in problems specific for HIV/AIDS, psychic, physical and social development for 2 years;
- Support for continuous education, for specialists and for YPLWHA: 20 people will work with HIV+ youngsters will benefit of experience exchange; a HIV infected youngsters will be sustained in continuing the studies during the project;
- Workshops for professional integration of YPLWHA: 21 HIV+ youngsters from social assistance units of FDP - Bucharest will be qualified, will benefit of education for a job and 5 from them will be employed;
- Vocational training and practice probation for YPLWHA: 72 HIV+ youngsters from Bucharest, Arad and Cojasca will benefit of vocational training, 35 of them will benefit of professional training sessions and 21 will attend practice probation;
- Development of independent life skills for youngsters who live with HIV/AIDS: 9 un-institutionalized HIV youngsters will develop for two years independent life skills within 3 social apartments.
