CENTRAS - Assisstance Centre for NGOs

CENTRAS' declared mission is to contribute at the development of democracy in Romania by strenghtening the role played by the non-gouvermental institutions.

Therefore CENTRAS activates like a resource centre and a strategic partner for NGOs, no mather what activity profile they have, for the public administration, international institutions, private sector and the media.

Starting 1994, the Centre built and strengthened a clear and neuter position n the non-profit sector in Romania, being able to rally efficiently and quickly the human, financial and informational resources that would allow it to reach the objectives proposed in its mission:

  • To contribute to the institutional growth of the Romanian NGOs;
  • To contribute to a better cooperation within the nongovernmental sector as well as with the public administration, media, citizens and business sector;
  • To develop best practice models in order to improve the Romanian NGOs' activities.

CENTRAS has a relevant experience in organizing national and international events - choosing the theme, taking care of the logistics and the image - with the participation of over 100 guests from the most various public categories (leaders and NGO representatives, public servants, local council representatives, journalists, students, opinion setters):

  • The International Judicial Conference - a worldwide meeting of constitutional and supreme courts' presidents (the Bucharest and Prague editions)
  • The Global Environment Fund - Environment and Communities Resources (the 2nd edition)
  • The NGOs National Forum in Romania (11 editions, between 1995-2006);
  • Organization of elections for assigning the NGO representatives in the Social and Economic Council.

CENTRAS provides consultancy and expertise in the following areas:

  1. training, technical assistance and consultancy services in domains such as organizational development, project planning and management, public relations, communication, volunteer management;
  2. training, organizes on average 10 sessions per year with approximately 150 attendees;
  3. acts as a partner in advocacy, information-education and important social and community issues rising campaigns;
  4. ollects and processes data and information from public administration to the civil society on themes of interest (database RO_NGO: http://www.centras.ro/database and database of public servants responsible of the relationship with civil society: http://www.centras.ro/contactapl);
  5. cooperation with NGOs active in social field, representing a priority for CENTRAS;
  6. elaboration of some researches on the nongovernmental sector's activity, made in collaboration with partner organizations and CENTRAS volunteers team.
