ACCEPT Association

ACCEPT Association was established in 1994, the year when it was set up Bucharest Acceptance Group, an informal structure that promotes the open and rational, constructive dialogue on the complexity of relations between people of same sex.

Afterwards, ACCEPT was registered in 1996 as an organization of defending human rights, defending and promoting the rights of LGBT (Lesbians, Gay, Bisexuals and Transgender) people in Romania.

The ACCEPT Association's main areas of intervention are:

  • lobby and advocacy activities meant to influence the public policies with regards to LGBT (education, STI prevention among LGBT, anti-discrimination legislation, etc)
  • disseminating information on the gay community in Romania, on the gay community's development and gay movement (supporting the gay groups in Romania)
  • approaching the health education and HIV/AIDS prevention (researches, IEC materials, etc)
  • direct action and grass-root activism and media activism (press monitorization, organizing some protest and artistic actions meant to increase the visibility of the LGBT community
  • cultural activities (film festivals, book launch, expositions)
  • social activities for LGBT people.

Under the Round 6 of Global Fund, ACCEPT Association implements two projects:

The objectives of the two projects can be resumed as:

  • Increase the access of MSM from 10 localities to adequate information on HIV prevention.
  • Increase the access of MSM to psycho-medical-social services adapted to MSM's needs, at national level
  • Bring to public agenda standards of best practice in working with MSM (for medical and psychological services associated with HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment).

Through these activities within these projects, the MSM from 10 localities will benefit of direct activities of information, informative materials' dissemination and creation, condom dissemination, installing a helpline, psychological and medical counseling for MSM, training the professionals from medical and psychological fields, lobby and advocacy activities meant to adopt some standards of best practice.
