The first Romanian NGO Festival

17th of September 2009

The old, historic centre of Bucharest was for three days the host of the first National NGO Festival, an initiative of the Civil Society Development Foundation (FDSC).

The festival that took place between September 11th-13th, hosted over 200 national NGOs that took advantage of this novelty opportunity to get to know each other and to promote its results and to provide for the over 30.000 visitors the chance to get familiar with the activities, hopes, ambitions and difficulties that the NGO sector is facing.

The remarkable Festival's events were the 5 seminars and workshops developed in an open-space area, but also the concerts, theatre plays, workshops and tombola organized by NGOs that continuously activated during the weekend in places like stands, streets or stage.

Among participants were also organizations that carry put projects financed by Global Fund through Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation (RAA), mentioning: The Romanian Association Against AIDS (ARAS), Baylor Black Sea Foundation, the National Union of Organizations of People Infected / Affected by HIV/AIDS (UNOPA), Save the Children Organization, Youth for Youth Foundation, etc.

Moreover, the festival was a great opportunity to increase the visibility of the projects that these foundations implement and develop with the finance of Global Fund. The TB and HIV/AIDS control and prevention programs were a priority in the organizations' list of activities and initiatives.

In the same time, the projects that aim facilitating access to vulnerable groups to medical services and specialized assistance also had a plus of visibility on the Romanian civil society's stage. We congratulate the organizers for this first successful event as such. As for the present organizations and associations we wish them a lot of success from now on!
