The National Conference on the results of the TB Program Phase I

On October 2nd the IBIS Parlament Hotel and in the Big Conference Room of the National Statistics Institute were the host of the conference aimed to disseminate the results obtained during the phase I of the Tuberculosis Grant (TB) financed by Global Fund, 6th Round through Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation (RAA).
The event, organized by Pneumoftiziology Institute Prof. Dr. Marius Nasta, Center for Health Politics and Services (CPSS), The National Centre for Studies in Family Medicine (CNSMF), proposed that besides the challenges faced by the sub-recipient organizations and institutions, to also present the successful interventions methods and to ensure the necessary environment to approach issues necessary for preparing the second phase of the Grant (2009-2011).
Among the invitees of the meeting there were also the county technical coordinators of the National TB Control Program (PNCT). This was also an occasion to present and approach the priority directions of interventions and actions on improving the national TB control. In this respect, as a PNCT's National Coordinator, Dr. Elmira Ibraim tackled the challenges and difficulties encountered in implementing the PNCT and the National TB Strategy, stating in the same time the availability to collaborate in order to clarify and solve them on behalf of the TB patients' interests.
This event was also the occasion for launching and presenting the results of the "Operational Researches in Romania for TB control", "Communication for changing behavior in TB control - from National Strategy to local interventions", "Implementing the PAL Strategy in Romania ", "Mass media engagement in behavior changing campaign", "Developing the management capacity building of the medical staff from the TB control network", "Strengthening the Public-Private Partnership in controlling TB ".
All these papers, elaborated within the first phase of the TB program financed by Global Fund through RAA Foundation, represent practical instruments and pragmatic reference documents for specialists but also for local authorities so that they would engage more actively and responsible in adopting some measures to fight TB and psycho-social support for TB patients and their families.
The meeting organized on October 2nd was very appreciated by the attendees and also by the county pneumology and public health specialists. It is expected that the recommendations and suggestions stated during this event would have a great contribution to improving the quality of the medical services for people with respiratory problems, beginning with the family physicians' cabinet ending with pneumology and phtsiology specialists.
