Romania provides consultancy to the Malawi state in fighting Tuberculosis
30th of September, 2008
The African continent and especially the sub-Saharan area face two diseases with devastating effects: HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis. In most cases the two of them go hand in hand. Tuberculosis could be considered the main cause of death for the HIV infected people.
The International forums - among which the Global Fund - had intensified in the past few years its efforts in limiting the expansion of the disease and improving the control of the two diseases. The amounts allocated by the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS and TB prevention, treatment and assistance for the people in difficulty had significantly increased from one financing round to another.
For Global Fund the sub-Saharan region and its problems represent an intervention priority and therefore there allocated important human and material resources. The African states need besides the material help the technical assistance and consultancy so that the money management and especially the activities coordination will be in the optimal parameters and the results would be accordingly.
The experience gained in coordination and implementation of the Global Fund programs recommends the Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation (RAA) as a resource in the field both for technical assistance and for specialty consultancy.
Therefore, as a response to the World Health Organization's request, the RAA Foundation through Mrs. Dr. Iulia Husar - M&E Tuberculosis Officer, provided during September 14th - 18th, 2008 consultancy for the Malawi state in elaborating a draft for a TB monitoring and evaluation Plan, including a National Tuberculosis Control Program.
Once these programmatic documents will be finalized they will be the basis of the Malawi state application to a new financing round of the Global Fund. Considered to be the poorest country in the world, Malawi is also among the most affected countries of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.
The contribution of our colleague was appreciated as valuable by both the local work group from Malawi and WHO experts.
RAA Foundation will continue to provide assistance for the organizations, institutions or states that face diseases as HIV/AIDS and TB, in this way puts value to the experience gained in this field.
