Summer School 2008 and the Chronic Respiratory Diseases

In the first decade of the XXI century the chronic respiratory diseases continue to be seen with concern by specialists. The reason for the concern is a very realistic one: at every 8 minutes, somewhere worldwide, a person dies out of a chronic disease...

This is why the Center for Health Politics and Services (CPSS) together with its partners and collaborators made the decision to approach as a priority topic the chronic respiratory diseases during the courses of the Summer School 2008.

Benefiting of the Global Fund's finance, 6th Round but also the involvement in organizing the meeting of the Doctors of the World Organization (DOW), Pneumoftiziology Institute Prof. Dr. Marius Nasta, and also the Romanian Society of Pneumoftiziology, this year edition offered those present various and interesting topics:

  • project management and accessing funds;
  • quality management;
  • operational research;
  • guidelines in elaborating and applying the PAL strategy, etc.

All these complete and put the good use of the experience that the pneumology, allergy, microbiology pr epidemiology physicians have in connection with an efficient management of the cases with chronic respiratory diseases.

These are added to the medical profile topics and studies that had been received with a lot of interest by the specialists.The event, carried out for 5 days (September 15-19), was hosted by the Pneumoftiziology Institute Prof. Dr. Marius Nasta, Bucharest and was received with a lot of interest by the medical world including those who are now in progress of professional training: resident physicians, young specialists.

"Developing the capacity of respiratory diseases prevention and control in Romania" generic theme under which had been organized training sessions, lectures and debates, presentations, case studies and strategic planning.

Among the participants to the training sessions, the inauguration session was also attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Public Health, academic, scientific and research personalities, all of them involved in respiratory diseases prevention and control in Romania.

As a special guest, Dr. Alvaro Cruz, the representative of the Global Alliance of Respiratory Diseases (GARD) underlined the strategic importance of introducing in Romania the PAL Program (Pulmonary Approach of the Lung), in its important role in strengthening the public health system and in improving the quality of the services offered to population.
