15 March 2008
The medical activities and the health programs carried out by the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform (M.I.R.A.) are coordinated by the General Medical Directorate (GMD).
A constant preoccupation of the GMD is to improve the quality of medical assistance provided for M.I.R.A. staff and establishing some collaboration and partnership relations with other institutions and organizations.
One of the partnerships that are already a tradition is the one between GMD and Youth for Youth Foundation (TNT), the programs that are developed together represent a new, attractive and instructive modality for health education.
GMD identified the HIV/AIDS as a field of a priority importance. In order to a better prevention and control of this disease as well as other sexual transmitted infections, this medical institutions has been initiating and coordinating in the past years various activities targeting the disease control among M.I.R.A. personnel.
In this respect, important steps had been taken together with the GMD decision to get involved in elaborating some projects aimed to reduce the HIV/AIDS risk also for the people who belong to vulnerable groups being temporally in the Romanian Police arrests.
All these initiatives can be subscribed in the general line of openness and collaboration adopted lately by M.I.R.A. and in the same time, they meet the needs and objective realities of the Romanian society.
The coordination and implementation of the activities involve, among others, an open and constructive approach of some present interest and sensitive subjects, such as the HIV transmission among the intravenous drug users or commercial sex workers.
Out of the projects, we could make a particular referral to the one who intends to train the personnel form the police arrests in order to contribute effectively to the prevention of HIV/AIDS, Sexual Transmitted Diseases (ITS) and substance abuse.
The project - financed by Global Fund within the 6th Round - will be carried out for 2 years, by the traditional collaboration Youth for Youth Foundation (TNT) and M.I.R.A.As a novelty element, the two partners will try to find and apply a new, interesting, efficient and of a big impact method on the vulnerable groups.
The first step in this respect had been taken by organizing some training sessions that allowed the attendees to fill up and update their knowledge in the field.
Therefore, during this year's February, namely between 08-10.02 and 22-24.02 were held two training sessions, the 46 attendees who are part of the surveillance and guard personnel and also medical-sanitary one from the police arrests.
Although it is focused on intravenous drug users and commercial sex workers, the training sessions provided more information such as general information on HIV/ITS, approaching and information dissemination techniques, risk factors and behaviors.
The training session had been considered by the attendees as being very useful and interesting, bringing in their activity a new element of a big importance.
