Social partnership for vulnerable groups
ARAS, one of the associations with an outstanding experience in working with people within disadvantage groups, focused again its attention to this matter.
Organized under the auspices of the International Year of Equal Opportunities, the meeting facilitated by ARAS had around the table discussion more organizations and institutions that carry out and develop programs for persons vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.
Therefore, the round table hosted on December 18th at the UN House among others also the Romanian Anti-Drug Agency (ANA), Romanian Constabulary, Community Police, Public Health Authority, The Bucharest General Police Department, The General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection district 3 and 6, Red Cross Association, Save the Children, Positive Meaning, UNOPA, The Romanian Harm Reduction Network, Integration, Association for the Defence of Human Rights in Romania, The United Nations Agency for Combating the Drug Use and Organized Crime, Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation.
This meeting stands as one of the activities financed by Global Fund Round 6, through Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation as Principal Recipient.
The discussions that were moderated by the organizers, allowed approaching some topics of present interest, namely the assistance and support services out of which people within vulnerable groups can equal and non-discriminatory benefit of.
The term "vulnerable person" determined over time different debates, suffering more amendments and restatements.In acceptation of the HIV/AIDS National Strategy, this category includes the homeless people, the intravenous drug users, commercial sex workers, rroma from disadvantaged communities.
Actually, all these people are multiple discriminated as regards the access to medical services and also to social and psychological support services.
Departing from the attendees' practice experience it was possible to draw up a map of both the necessary services and the available ones.
Due to this meeting it was possible to conclude a social partnership with the objective of improving the public policies regarding the assistance of disadvantaged people.
All the attendees drew the conclusion that only the dialogue and the communication with the decision makers are essential for further development of some projects alike.
The attendees proposed that such meetings shall become a habit due to the opportunity of experience exchange and knowing each other.In conclusion, setting up a partnership and improving the collaboration between governmental institutions and the civil society's representatives would be favourable for all the parties involved but moreover for the disadvantaged groups.
The next meeting of the new workgroup will take place in the second part of February.
