New sub-grant agreements concluded for Tuberculosis component

December and January marked the period of finalizing the negotiations with the three organizations and institutions that will implement the activities aimed to improve the tuberculosis control in Romania.

The Centre for Health Politics and Services (CHPS) that concluded the sub-grant agreement on December 18th, as a premiere in Romania will implement projects related to TB control:

  • Operational research;
  • Development of the public-private partnership, namely its role and responsibilities in the TB control considering the development trend of medical assistance private sector;
  • Drawing up and implement the PAL strategy ("Practical Approach to Lung Health") that aims for an integrated approach for treating the respiratory disorders at the primary medical assistance.

This approach is based on the reasoning that can improve the identification and treating the tuberculosis in relation with the other respiratory diseases an also the identification and treatment of non-tuberculosis respiratory diseases in relation with tuberculosis.

It is also foreseen to draw up a National strategy of information-education-communication, continued with interventions in communities in order to change the behaviours.

Other 2 projects implemented by CHPS propose to strengthen the management capacity of the staff from the pneumoftiziology network and also to increase the mass-media involvement in the campaigns of changing behaviour of general population towards TB.

National School of Public Health and Health Services Management (NSPHHSM), that concluded the sub-grant agreement on January 17th, will draw up in a premiere the National Strategy in advocacy, communication and social mobilization in TB Control.This strategy will be based on the identified needs of the tuberculosis patients and their family members and aims to increase the communities' involvement in control and preventing this disease.

The organization Save the Children Romania that already finished the negotiations and concluded the grant agreement on January 28th, contributes to the implementation of some TB control activities among homeless / street children and youngsters:

  • Providing services of social evaluation and psycho-social support;
  • Information- education- communication in TB area in order to change behaviours;
  • Identification of TB suspects and send them to medical assistance services in order to establish the diagnosis and treatment;
  • Psychological evaluation and counselling for identified TB patients in order to ensure their compliance with the treatment.

The Save the Children organization contributes with an important experience in carrying out interventions for the target group, who is considered of being vulnerable.

It is important to mention that some activities will be carried out in partnership, with a lot of organizations' involvement, especially in the IEC area in order to change behaviours.

For the other implementer institutions and organizations will continue the negotiation process and defining the agreement terms.

Benefiting of the technical assistance and support provided by Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation, as a Principal Recipient, it is foreseen to end the negotiation and agreement process at the beginning of March.
