STI Surveillance Training Organized at Dubrovnik, Croatia

World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating centre for capacity Building in HIV/AIDS Surveillance (http://www.surveillancezagreb.org/), from Zagreb, Croatia, launches a new training course.
Organised by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Capacity Building in HIV Surveillance, School of Public Health "Andrija Stampar", Croatia, Institute for Global Health, University of San Francisco, California and WHO, this training's porpose is to provide an understanding of the structure and functioning of surveillance of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and strategies for planning and implementing STI surveillance programmes in diverse settings.
The training will be held between 29 June till the 3rd of July 2008, at Hotel Croatia, Cavtat, Dubrovnik, Croatia. At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify key factors that influence the trends in STIs
- Outline main functions and components of STI surveillance
- Identify the main advantages and disadvantages of each component of STI surveillance
- Describe key approaches to analysis of surveillance data
- Appraise the limitations in the interpretation of STI surveillance data
- List a general framework for undertaking an evaluation of surveillance programmes
- Outline main requirements for successful implementation of STI surveillance programmes
- Identify 5 strategies for enhancing STI surveillance in their own country setting
- Develop a protocol for STI surveillance.
