ACCEPT Association invites for the "Introduction in LGBT Issue" Workshop
It is commonly accepted that 5-10% of each country's population has a sexual orientation other than the majority. Thins implies that between 5-10% of the customers who access the medical-psycho-social services are lesbians, gay, bisexuals or transgender persons (LGBT). Most of the gay customers are "invisible" due to the fear that disclosing the sexual orientation may lead to homophobia reactions.The purpose of the workshop proposed by ACCEPT Association is to increase the information level on LGBT issue among professionals who work in these fields.
Besides defining some terms and providing information on gay community in Romania, the workshop also reaches the following questions:· Do gay customers have special needs?· Are you able to recognize a gay customer?· How to make your cabinet gay friendly?· The discrimination of LGBT people. When does it occur? What are the consequences?
Who is the target? First of all, the physicians, nurses, psychologists and social assistants who want to get familiar with gay issues in order to provide proper services to this category. According to the availability, there might be the case where to the workshop may attend students preparing for a profession in one of these fields.
Administrative information: The workshop is free of charge. The accommodation and meals are on behalf of ACCEPT. The transport expenses will be reimbursed in the week following the workshop according to the limits settled by the grant maker. The workshop is part of the project Adequate services for MSM (Men who have Sex with Men), financed by Global Fund of Fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, through Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation.The exact location and the workshop's agenda will be afterwards communicated to the selected candidates. Working hours: Friday, November 23rd and Saturday, November 24th, between 9:00 - 18:00; Sunday, November 25th, between 9:00- 12.30. The accommodation is available for Thursday, Friday and Saturday (22-24 November). The attendance is mandatory for all the working sessions. Number of participants: 25
